In 1845 James Moysey purchased 32 hectares of grazing land. He named his property Beaumaris Park, a name, which derives from the Welsch costal resort where King Edward I built the Beau Marais Castle "Beau Marais" originates from the Franco-Norman word for "beautiful marsh".
In 1888 the Beaumaris Park estate was auctioned . At the same time the Beaumaris Hotel was built. It was named the "Great Southern Hotel" and located East of Ricketts point. overlooking Beaumaris Bay. The Hotel had 61 rooms, a tower and promenade. Today the hotel's restaurant "Beaumaris Pavillion" is famous for its signature dishes such as Kingfish with crayfish tortelinis and Japanese seaweed salad.
Well back from the Bayside the Royal Melbourne Golf Club established its course in 1901. At the same time Keefers boatshed and the jetty , near the hotel was built and in 1977 Kazue and Carsten moved into the area which, was described as "...visitors take delightful walks along the rugged cliffs overlooking the sapphire blue waters and among inland wildflowers ...". Also, well known artists of the Heidelberg School like Charles Conder 1868-1909 ans Arthur Streeton 1867-1943 painted such works of as

Ricketts Point in 1890 and Mentone Beach during the summer of 1886/7

Today the Beaumaris foreshore looks as beautifull as in the days when the painters choose the area for their works
